| What are you least skeptical about? If you had to choose something what would it be? Out of the paranormal spectrum - such as Ghosts, UFOs, Big Foot, Alternative Therapy's, etc.?

| I'm going to have a think about this one too. The question was asked to the panel on " The skeptics guide to the universe". I thought it was an interesting one. I'm in the Alien camp myself - after all, the universe is a big place, and were still very technologically unadvanced. But I'll have to get back to the thread with some good "whys". Cheers, R. | |

| Intuition has to be mine. I am very much an advocate of Gavin De Becker's school of thought regarding intuition and, to be honest, it underlies pretty much all I teach in the soft skills side of my self-defence coaching. I don't believe it is a mystical skill and I don't associate it with gambling. | |

| Hi Jamie,
I'm with you there... I'm a firm believer in intuition. And it's a big part of what I teach. Like yourself, I don't see anything magical about it. I definitely take an influence from reading one of Marcus Wynn's articles.
That intuition is a series of "mismatches" in your environment. Which will cause a subconscious alarm bell - that weird 6th sense feeling. Then through a series of subconscious calculations it will then manifest into the conscious mind.
Wish I could find that article - it was a fascinating read.

| Thanks for the replies guys. It wasn't until I started reading more stuff outside of the De Becker/Grossman circle that I realized intuition is a regular subjects for sceptics. However, their arguments rarely seem to touch upon problems associated with self-preservation etc. i.e. I have yet to read a strong criticism of De Becker's definition of intuition. Most seem to be aimed at gamblers and other people who rely a lot on luck. Nevertheless, there are doubters out there, as can be seen by this refute offered by Abella Arthur implies, as quoted on Wikipedia: - Quote :
- “Intuition is a combination of historical (empirical) data, deep and heightened observation and an ability to cut through the thickness of surface reality. Intuition is like a slow motion machine that captures data instantaneously and hits you like a ton of bricks. Intuition is a knowing, a sensing that is beyond the conscious understanding — a gut feeling. Intuition is not pseudo-science.” Abella Arthur
I quite liked the sound of that definition. And then I looked up who Abella Arthur was http://www.knowtheway.caAm I being too judgmental?

| I tried it again and it worked for me. Just put her name into a search and you will see why I have reservations about quoting the good Ms. Arthur. This weird melding of the scientific with the pseudoscientific or the occult also plagues the world of martial arts. This weird compromise that just doesn't make any logical sense. | |

| I'd have to say life on other planets just because with the amount of galaxies in the universe and the amount of stars in a galaxy and the amount of planets which orbit those stars I find it difficult to think that only one managed to harbour life. I just don't think we're that special. | |
