| Hi Den, On the subhect of pseudohistory, this link might also interest you. It is one of Carlin's older podcasts and therefore you will have to buy it, but it only works out at about £1. "The X-History Files" http://dancarlin.com/dcosc/product_info.php?products_id=34The podcast received mixed responses from historians and fans alike. Historyzine podcast, like many of the other academics, didn't like it (although they love the rest of his podcasts) because they didn't see the importance of addressing this issue. This is a fairly typical reaction from those who don't really see the threat of people warping history in the mainstream. They wrongfully assume that only crackpots believe in it. "Counter-Knowledge", "Voodoo Histories" and Shermer's "Denying History" show the genuine creeping threat of pseudohistory and its implications. Here's a comparison. Creationism, which if you think about it is also a type of pseudohistory, wasn't taught in mainstream schools when I was a kid. Religion and science were happily taught seperately in my Chuch of England primary and my Quaker secondary. Now we have this battle going on, where Creationism has been allowed through the backdoor of political correctness. Scientsts see this threat to both the study of biology and geology. Pseudohistory, as explained by Damian Thompson, used to be regulated to the "Occult" or "Escoteric" sections of your local Waterstones or Ottaker's. Now it is being recommended as essential reading under the "History" section. | |

| "Alexander versus Hitler" is also worth buying. It's quite short, but makes an interesting comment regarding how we view atrocities over time. | |

| I have been tempted, but my laptop has run out of disk space despite my wonderful ipod still going strong with tons of space left. Carlin has wisely gone to pains to seperate his political stuff from his history stuff. I have done the same with my Beelzebub's Broker and my two other blogs. I haven't even linked BB to my CCMA site.
Glad you like the Hardcore History. It is great to hear someone be entertaining without falling into the pulp non-fiction or pseudohistory trap. Mind you, in his otherwise excellent pseudohistory episode he does make a little slip-up re Nostradamus that surprised me. | |
