I saw this on sky news today. As I've no kids, I was just wondering what you guys thought about it?

When I was growing up, I've got to say my parents were great. They were always very supportive no matter how many mistakes I made. Embarassed

Regarding discipline, it was usually enough to give me a bit of a bollocking and then I'd behave. That said, I received a few taps (or smacks as it were which were, which very light of course) over the years, and to be honest It didn't do me any harm. I always saw a huge difference between beating and smacking.

As not being a parent - I can't say what I'd do for sure (no beatings of course!). Do you think the state has the right to tell us how to be parents?

In a word no!

However I think the state has a ight to stop child cruelty - Big Difference - I have been on the receipt of that.

I do not smack my kids, I use the naughty step and my daughter s far better behaved and polite than people I know that go straight for the smack.

This is not evidence either way but works for me Smile

Den.

Absolutely!!! Big prisons sentences are due to creeps that hurt children (or anyone imo).

As I said I have no kids... but I do have to dogs (my two Staffies) which I treat like my kids, and I do not smack them. I just give out - that usually does the trick. Smile Now before anyone says anything... I'm not comparing kids to Staffies. But it's the closest things that I'm responsible for. Very Happy

But I think smacking (as long as it's light and not cruel) is okay. As Den pointed out cruelty in another mater.
