Just who is "Big Pharma" and are they really out to get us?

Well? Does the big pharmaceutical conspiracy exist? And if so, are they really hiding all those cures?

Or could they actually make more cash selling them us?

It just goes to show that often what you loathe most in others is really what you resent in yourself. Some of you may know by now that conspiracy theorists are definitely the believers I have the most beef with. I guess this is down to fact that I am a damn site better at history than I am at science, so their particular brand of pseudohistory really "grinds my geers!" Nevertheless, last year I discovered that New Scientist, no less, were reporting on a type of "cheap" drug called DCA that clinical trials were revealing killed almost all types of cancer:

My dear uncle was dying of cancer so I was clutching at straws on this one and the conclusions coming back seemed to suggest that the reason why this drug was not in circulation was because it could not be patented and therefore the companies would not pick it up. Even in my grief, accepting this idea sent my "scepty sense" screaming. Surey, even if this were true, a smaller company would have picked it up or the researchers themselves. Is there any light anyone can shed on the development of this drug or rational reasons why it is not being broadcast globally as the breakthrough we have all been waiting for?

Thanks for the update, Den. It answers my questions and makes sense. Since my uncle's death I didn't follow up on it.
