Will SETI ever find anything? Do you think we should even bother using that type of radio telescope technology?

As the distances are so vast - What are the chances that we'd even exist at the same time as another intelligent civilization? Even if we did, would we (or they) still exist by the time we could possibly meet them?

Will we be actually able to recognize alien life even if our paths crossed? They, for all we know, could be some kind of proto-energy. Who knows?!

I feel its definately worth looking, they may even be our saviours Smile

Considering the budget for seti is roughly less than whats spent per day funding the war that Ameica has running at the moment I don't see a problem.

Infact if America stopped its war and invested the cash in science instead the rate of growth would be exponential Smile

Den.

Again, I totally agree with you! I'm a big fan of SETI and I think it's very worthwhile, I very much doubt we'll find anything in the near future though. But you never know - there's got to be something else out there. Especially if there is an advanced race that can actually manipulate physics in a way we cannot comprehend at the moment.

Have you listened to the SETI podcasts? Absolutely fascinating - he also does a skeptical Sunday show which is really cool.

Its taken 3 month but I have caught up on the archives of at least 12 podcasts, seti, ness, Quackcast and Point of Inquiry being some of the better ones.

Just clearing a backlog of Scientific American and then on to The Economist, about 30 magazines worth to listen to Very Happy

Den.

Hard work being a Sceptic lol! But fun also.
