If we were doing our own glossary of words and phrases in scepticism there would have to be an entry for this one. I have to admit that despite my love of writing, reading and English literature in general, the word bypassed me until I heard in the famous "League of Gentlemen" scene. Put "egregious" and "league of gentlemen" into a YouTube search and it's bound to be there - very funny!

Since then, however, I have noticed that sceptics wield the term on a regular basis. The next time you listen to a sceptical broadcast count how many times this word pops up.

Nah, it is more likely that your filters are better refined for science and useful information. My wife is like that, which makes her excellent company for re-watching films etc. As you can see from my blog I am a horder of all sorts of rubbish that I justify with weird connections and angles.
