What gave you the idea to write about the subject?

Hi Rob,

It was a response to an email that grew into an article from an article into a booklet and then finally became a book. Salt and Sauce's story became legend from the moment they accidentally killed their first trainer. It has become the stuff of folklore in my community. So, on my father's encouragement (who is a circus/zoo historian and a famous wild animal trainer), I decided to go about debunking stuff on my front door! The result is the first comprehensive investigation into their lives.

I was fortunate enough to meet one of their trainers shortly before his death. He was an incredible man who not only did a multitude of circus acts (tumbling, trapeze, roman rings etc.), but was also a great fighter. He was boxing competitively at the age of 8, fighting nearly every day in the circus and there are accounts of him and his brothers completely clearing a bar in minutes.
