Awareness is a BIG topic in the RBSD community. Some discuss it like a disclaimer before they can move onto their WWII eye gouging whereas others go on about it to the extent that aware turns to paranoid. I certainly place awareness high on my self protection agenda. However, its positioning comes after attitude or "Respect". Withouth these all your 20/20 vision, 180 degree sweeps, walking commentry and Cooper colour codes mean bugger all. Knowledge is no good without the proper intent ...

Who would they be?

After Lee, here's a few of the guys I'd love to train with.

Carl Cestari (although this will never be possible now, as he recently passed away ).

Kelly McCann

Geoff Thomspon (or course!! )

John "awesome" Anderson

Nick Hughes

Si Squires (again - his training was great!)

Melisa Soalt (AKA - Dr. Ruthless)

Richard Dimitri (Senshido)

Dennis Jones

That's all I can think of at the mo'.

Cheers,

The following is an interview I conducted with Dennis "Samurai on the Door" Jones in June 2006 when for research material for my book. It was never published and nor was the two part article I wrote later containing material from our interview. I have reproduced on my website as I believe it provides some valuable insights into the development of martial arts and self defence. Any feedback is most welcome.

This is where all the anxiety starts regarding bullying. The trouble is that most articles are directed towards the first day when I have discovered that most bullying progresses over a period ...

By Jamie Clubb

It's a sad day when you realise you've outgrown your once respected seniors. I began my martial arts training in earnest at age 14 in an eclectic system called Sakiado (way of the body and mind). The system was taken from UKTA (ITF) Taekwondo and American Kickboxing. The style was fairly basic and limited, using a western boxing stance and punching combinations with Taekwondo's other techniques.

Sakiado was certainly a business (no harm in that), ...

MA Busted!

Does anyone feel the subject of Martial arts hocum should be de-bunked openly on TV?

I know magic has had its tricks exposed, which was disappointing for me, Mitch Pileggi exposed the secrets of Pro Wrestling, which when I saw it as a hardcore fan was extremely gut wrenching for me, totally destroying my belief system

So should there be a tv expose busting the bull industry within the Martial arts Industry?

Regards,

This was one of my most popular earlier articles and got my name around. It has been published in Martial Arts Illustrated, on Cyberkwoon, on Iain Abernethy's website and several others along including my own of course. Looking back I am surprised just how far I have moved forward with my thinking, but nevertheless the crude notes in "Martial Academia" are still very close to my heart and opinion:

Bruce Lee's Death

Martial arts, of course, has a conspiracy theory all of its own and featuring its own celebrity. Bruce Lee's death is pretty much an open and closed case. However, because the verdict given is "Death by Misadventure" the hounds of speculation have never ceased. I have read some bizarre ideas given for how he was killed from a mystic curse to the Triads to the Dim Mak via disgruntled Chinese martial arts.
